Information for Open VMS
People have successfully crashed OpenVMS 6.1, 6.2 and 7.0 running on DEC alphas.
According to David Flanders of DEC,
the VAX VMS code is based on the Ultrix code, which is it risk to a variation of the Ping o' Death - see the Ultrix page for more information. The alpha systems are at risk, not because of Decnet OSI but because the Alpha version of UCX is ported from Digital Unix (another problem system). I have been told that UCX 3.3 crashes as well (no surprise really) but I have no information on a patch for that version.
Only UCX tcp/ip is vulnerable. Multinet is definately stable, as Cisco (who make it) have tested it out.
Greg Thomas mailed me with descriptions of the patches, which I've reproduced here. Enjoy, they're very exciting reading!
The description mentioned above didn't make it on to my server, they where missing on the page I mirrored.
